GANDIA AREA SOCIAL CLUB (INTERNATIONAL)

In the 1980's there were relatively few English people living in the Gandia area, a few of the ones that were living here decided to meet once in a while and have an evening meal together, this was basically the start of the Club. The club members meet every Thursday throughout the year for a social evening, with a three week break over Christmas.

Our committee meets one or more times per month, meetings are quite involved and generally last up to 3 hours. Once per year there is an Annual General Meeting. Follow this link to read the agenda: AGM 2005, (it will open in a new window). In January 2005 the President Jeff was voted in by a huge majority. There was also a Mid Summer General Meeting in 2005. Nominations for committee members - an individual member may propose him or herself. Voting is now allowed by proxy (see agenda for more details). David Kitching was voted in as our new president.

The AGM in 2006 was held at the Hotel Mirimar Playa, on Tuesday 31 January, read the agenda. Agenda items and nominations for extra committee members had to be presented to the Secretary by Monday 16th January 2006. Read the minutes here. We also have an EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) on Thursday 23rd March 2006 at Oliva Tennis Club (a normal dinner night).

AGM for 2007 was on Tuesday 30th January, 10.30am at Viva Espaņa. Notice of AGM Member's Proposals had to be submitted by Monday 15th January 2007 , read the agenda, read the minutes 2007 AGM here now approved.

Our AGM in 2008 is on Tuesday 29th January, 10.30am at Viva Espaņa (N332, Oliva). Notice of AGM. Nominations for Chairman, Vice-Chairman or committee members were submitted by Monday 14th Jan 2008 - come and vote - we have 2 proposals for President (David K & Pam E) and 3 for Vice-President (Kay W, Rose N & Pam E) this year added note - David K & Kay W remain Member's Proposals had to be submitted by Monday 14th January 2008 Secretary@GandiaAreaSocialClub.com, read the agenda finalised Wednesday 16th January 2008.

Any one is welcome to join, (or even try us out without joining). We hold many activities throughout the year including, Dinner Dances, Coach Outings to places of interest, visits to local Theatres, rastros, auctions, twice a week Petanca and once a week choice of country walks for the energetic members.

Joining is an easy process. Fill out a Membership Application Form, one can viewed and printed off from this link: Membership Form (which will open in a new window - maybe a bit slow) please check that all sections print OK, and fill in all details requested. Bring the completed form together with sufficient money to Viva Espaņa one Thursday dinner evening for the Membership Secretary: Pam. Single people, couples or families may use this form.

All members must abide by the Spanish legislation governing properly registered and run clubs. All members must also abide by our own club rules, a copy can be viewed from this link: Club Rules (they will open into a new window). The constitution and Club Rules have both undergone minor revision, (this is due to changes in the Spanish Statutes).

Our club also has a small lending library available for use by any club member. The collection isn't extensive, just two bookcases full, but any club member may borrow from it. These bookcases are housed at the club's Head Quarters Viva Espaņa, and normally are opened for use each Thursday dinner evening, though at present they are 'in limbo'.
